o.p.i. summer 2010 colors

by Allison on June 21, 2010 in Beauty, Style · 47 comments

O.P.I. is a sponsor for SocialLuxe Lounge this summer and I, for one, couldn’t be more thrilled.  O.P.I. nail polish is the best nail polish out there.  According to me.  I have some knowledge on the subject as I’ve had my nails painted {fingernails and toes} consistently since Kindergarten.  You think I’m kidding?  I’m the the girl who smuggled Avon lipstick samples in my underwear to circle time so I could makeover the girls in my class.  I sort of wish I were kidding.

Nail polish is very important to me.  Every Saturday night, so I’ll be pretty for church and the coming week, I sit down in front of a movie and give myself a new manicure and pedicure.  I appreciate nail polish that lasts longer than three days.  You wouldn’t think it’s so hard, we can send a man to the moon and all, but we can’t find nail polish that won’t chip.  O.P.I. nail polish can actually last over a week, if I’m careful about it, and that’s really saying something.

I had a marvelous time testing out the newest O.P.I. summer 2010 colors, and I’m happy to say pastels are whats’ hot right now.  Very hot.  Pastel pink, purple, blue, and even pastel green are here for the lovely summer months.  They’re delightful.  Loads of fun.

Normally I wear some variation of a deep red nail polish but lately I’ve been sporting opaque pastels.  I love it; I feel a little bit more youthful with purple on my nails.

Would you like to know the best part about O.P.I. nail polish?  Aside from the fact that it’s beautiful, lasts longer than any other, and comes in a dazzling array of colors?

The names.  Each and every color has a hysterically funny name.  How can you not have a great day when you’re wearing ‘Lucky lucky lavender‘?

Do you wear nail polish?  Are you a red girl or is clear as brave as you get?

I really need some extra luck…I’m going to get the lucky, lucky lavender!

2 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 10:08 am

It’s so pretty on your hands too, go get some Lucky Lucky!

3 Stacia June 21, 2010 at 7:45 am

I almost remember you with those Avon samples, but I also remember you were the only kindergartener in the wheel parade who rode a ten speed!

4 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 10:07 am

How do you REMEMBER these things Stacia? I can barely remember Kindergarten, but I do remember the lipstick! 10 speed? It was guaranteed a hand-me-down from someone older.

I love the fun colors! I’m going to have to give the blue a try.

Here’s a pic of a recent mani/pedi that I had prior to my first 1/2 marathon: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rslaflam/4687406401/in/set-72157624180946194/

I think that might be the best pedicure I’ve EVER SEEN. Are you kidding me?!

7 Carina June 21, 2010 at 9:38 am

I adore OPI. I can’t WAIT to see them represented at SocialLuxe!

8 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 10:05 am

You’re going to adore them in the swag even more.

9 stephenie June 21, 2010 at 9:39 am

I am totally a red girl–in varying shades of course. But sometimes I step out and try a funky color like the ones in your post. In summer, you feel like you can do those sorts of things. Heading off this afternoon for a pedicure and might have to go wild!

10 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 10:06 am

Stephenie,

Go bananas & then come home to tell me about it.

11 Meg/Brassy Apple June 21, 2010 at 12:52 pm

LOVE the blue and the green! and the PINK is HOT! :) woo!

12 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 1:19 pm

Aren’t the blue & green fun? I love them. Love. LOVE.

13 Stacy June 21, 2010 at 2:14 pm

I Love, Love, Love O.P.I. as well. My fave of the moment is Parlez-vous OPI? Painting right now. Would you do a post on your manicure process sometime? I hope I haven’t missed it but try as I might I can get 3-4 days at most out of a mani. I need the trick! Thx.

14 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 6:04 pm

Stacy,

That post is totally in the works. It’s quite the involved process, but it’s worth it in the end!

I live for OPI polish. There’s not another thing I’ll put on my tootsies. My fingernails typically stay untouched because they’re busy getting bumped, broken, and trimmed (ah, the typing dilemma). Living in AZ keeps my feet uncovered for 90% of the year. I’m pretty sure, with the exception of a cute pair of boots or chucks, I’m wearing flip flops. And my toes? They are long and the nails double as canvas’ for elves. My big toe…I won’t even get into it.

OPI is the best. Pretty much is what I was meaning to say with the rambling.

16 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 6:05 pm

Jess,

So glad you’re on the O.P.I. train. It’s marvelous stuff isn’t it? Even in the winter when my feet are bundled 99% of the time? I still feel better if I’m wearing hot nail polish.

17 Jennifer (Savor) June 21, 2010 at 5:34 pm

O.P.I is the BEST nail polish! I had a manicure recently (huge discount through mom night out/moms club) and used the blue color that you have in a photo. It was a total risk for me but I love it!

18 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 6:06 pm

Oh, so glad you love it! I know, sometimes I feel like a bit of a teenager trying out the bright colors but they’re totally fun!

19 Stacey June 21, 2010 at 7:09 pm

Normally I only wear reds. I have about a trillion different shades of red in every brand, but occasionally I’ll wear a dark plum, black or dark grey, but mostly reds. I love OPI. It’s one of my favorite brands. I paint my nails ALL the time. Drives my poor hubby crazy. He says he’s losing brain cells from the fumes. haha

20 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 8:45 pm

My husband complains about the fumes too, but I think over the last 12 years he’s getting a little more used to it. It’s only a sore point now when I paint them in the car.

{you know I do it, too}

21 Alix from Modern Kiddo June 21, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Ms Allison, you get more fun, cute and cool the more I “know” ya. I loooooove fun colors too. I mean, my classic go-to for toesies is the bright red or hot pink dealie. But on my fingers I love to play around. I just bought blue and yellow…i’m an OPI fan too, although I’ve been cheatin’ on ol OPI and have been using that Sally Hanson Quick Dry stuff (it literally dries in 30 seconds, which is great for on-the-go slickin’). Right now my toes are a fright and I’m so glad you reminded me because I best be gettin’ them read for EVO!!!

22 Petit Elefant June 21, 2010 at 8:46 pm

:)

Yellow is a front I haven’t ventured into yet, but maybe it’s time! Yellow toes & blue nails? Hawt!

23 Stacey June 21, 2010 at 11:34 pm

Sally Hansen has a new (to me) salon line. I bought their Commander in Chic and I LOVE it! It’s the perfect amount of grey and purple. For summer I bought a new color of theirs, it’s white with a hint of purple. I can’t get the coats just right so I haven’t worn it yet. But I do love how it looks in the bottle.

24 Petit Elefant June 22, 2010 at 11:47 am

Oooh! I haven’t tried that, I’ll have to keep my eye out for it.

25 jenB June 21, 2010 at 11:45 pm

“I’m not really a waitress” is a long long time favourite. I just bought four new mini OPIs and the two sparkly topcoats at Sephora.

26 Petit Elefant June 22, 2010 at 11:48 am

Me too! It’s a perfect color isn’t it? I won’t lie, I have a purple sparkle OPI I bought at Sephora a couple months ago. Love it.

27 Vanderbilt Wife June 22, 2010 at 8:32 am

I just love the OPI names! I rarely put on nail polish at home, but when I go to the salon I always pick an OPI with a great name. :)

28 Petit Elefant June 22, 2010 at 11:49 am

I think it’s a fairly good sign that every salon I’ve ever been to only carries OPI. The names alone make me feel more relaxed!

29 Lu June 22, 2010 at 8:45 am

I am always looking for a good bitch red! These look wonderul.

30 Petit Elefant June 22, 2010 at 11:50 am

YES! Totally. They probably have 20 shades of red, which I adore completely.

31 Marie June 22, 2010 at 10:26 am

So excited to get my hands on some of this at EVO this weekend. My toes are ready!

32 Petit Elefant June 22, 2010 at 11:51 am

Oh just you wait baby! I have more OPI than you can shake a stick at!

33 Heather June 22, 2010 at 10:42 am

I bout a new bottle last night at the dollar store. 1 dollar and 7 cents. It is a wonder what a little bottle of prettiness can do for a lady!!

34 Petit Elefant June 22, 2010 at 11:51 am

Isn’t it though? I think a little lipstick and a little nail polish goes a long way towards healing a woman’s soul.

35 kimberly June 22, 2010 at 5:35 pm

my favorite: I’m not really a waitress.

36 Allison June 22, 2010 at 8:15 pm

Kimberly,

I knew it! I thought there was some OPI loving in our history together!

37 girlsmama June 22, 2010 at 9:55 pm

OPI is the nail color my salon used in high school. Loved it. I love a good pedicure, but can’t afford it all the time. Would you be willing to do a step by step mani/pedi tut like your eyebrow one??? That would rock.

38 Allison June 22, 2010 at 11:07 pm

girlsmama,

I think if we had more pedicures in the world, we’d be closer to world peace. OPI? Magic.

39 Ivy June 23, 2010 at 1:35 pm

What’s the best place to find OPI polish? I know I’ve seen it but I can’t remember where. Help!

40 Allison June 28, 2010 at 4:39 pm

Ivy,

I buy it anywhere. Target, Walgreens, anywhere that sells nail polish.

41 Jamie June 24, 2010 at 9:32 am

I was a life-long nail biter until 2 months ago when I got a manicure and found the key to stopping was having pretty nails. I am now obsessed with nail polish – I don’t have any OPI but I am going to pick some up now, as I am always having trouble with chipping polish, probably because of so much typing etc.

42 Allison June 28, 2010 at 4:40 pm

Jamie,

Wear expensive nail polish, it will do the trick. I’m also going to do a post on how to make your manicure last a week, even with obsessive tap tap tapping.

43 Amy @ The Bitchin' Wives Club June 27, 2010 at 1:12 am

Painting my nails used to destroy them… until I found OPI’s Nail Envy. That stuff is amazing! And my favorite color ever (sadly no longer available) was called Lillehammer Lingonberry.

Second Runner-up: I’m Not Really a Waitress Red.

:)

44 Allison June 28, 2010 at 4:41 pm

Isn’t it awesome? Love!

I’m not really a waitress is the best red ever.

45 SweetNez July 4, 2010 at 11:33 pm

I’m not very familiar with OPI, but please be aware that most nail polishes have formaldehyde in them. And if you’ve been wearing it everyday for years….Think about it. There are plenty of formaldehyde free brands out there though, in lovely colors. Just a little FYI. :)

46 Allison July 11, 2010 at 11:31 pm

Thanks SweetNez! I’m cool with it, I probably have more toxins in my body than could fuel a car, but as long as I’m cool with it, it’s all good.

47 Jasmine February 15, 2011 at 7:44 pm

I absolutely LOVE your post. =)
Was wonder what were the name’s of the four pastel colors. They’re simply so bright and dashing!
