Ingredients for a happy summer

Last week I went to the gym for a couple hours {stop the presses!} and came home to a contented, totally decked out Charming.  Precocious had a friend over, and between the two of them they glittered, pony tailed, gelled, and hair sprayed Charming to within an inch of his life.

He loved it, obviously.

I found him on the driveway, bubbles in hand, enjoying a pretty summer night like only a small child can.

Even though I had a million other things to do, I started snapping photos. Because I’d just been to a few photography workshops at EVO and was feeling extra inspired.

I realized the ingredients for summer happiness, at least where Charming is concerned, are few:

  1. Getting dressed alone
  2. Being fussed over
  3. Glitter
  4. Transportation {scooter}
  5. Bubblegum {not pictured}
  6. Cold drink {Capri Sun}
  7. Bubbles

And in taking out a few moments from my day, capturing him in the essence of his personal happiness, embodying all that summer should be for a kid, I shot one of my favorite photos of him.  Ever.

  1. robyn :

    that’s a cute kid.
    p.s. — i think my list would be eerily similar.

    • Allison :

      I like him okay. I guess.

  2. elizabeth-flourishinprogress :

    Nothing makes me happier than gettin’ my hair did. Except for glitter and a cold drink. Which may or may not also be Capri Sun. Sure, I would add a few ingredients to the Capri Sun, but to each their own, no?=)

    Great pictures on the simple pleasures that make such a big difference.

    • Allison :

      I like nothing more than someone taking a careful brush to my head. Seriously.

  3. Amanda :

    I don’t usually go in for the whole love at first site bit, but my google reader suggested I might like your blog…and land alive, I love it.

    • Allison :

      Amanda, I’m so happy you’re here! And thank you. Means a lot.

  4. Laurel :

    I love everything about this post, pictures included! and I adore you, Allison – and Charming too :) Please tell you family hello for me.

    • Allison :

      Thank you Laurel! Truly. And I will, of course.

  5. Erin @ Brownie Bites :

    What a good sport he is! The matching crocs just pull the whole thing together, I think.

    • Allison :

      Erin, I think you’re right. He knew he needed a solid piece in there to anchor the outfit. A little style guru, that one.

  6. Naomi :

    He is such a cutie, even when he makes the grumpy face. Love that he puts up with the primping.

    • Allison :

      Poor little thing doesn’t have much of a choice. But I agree, he’s pretty cute.

  7. Heidi E :

    Very cute!! Great pictures too. :)

    • Allison :

      Thank you!

  8. Sarah :

    One day, his wife will thank you immensely for these photos. That is IF you decide to share ;)

    • Allison :

      He’s not going to have a wife. I’m going to be the only woman in his life, forever and ever. Amen.

      • Sarah :

        I feel the exact same way about my (currently)mustachioed young man ;)

      • Allison :

        Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! A mustache? *SIGH*
