how to remove your makeup with olive oil

I’m really in love with olive oil,  I think it’s the 8th natural wonder of the world.  In addition to cooking with olive oil I use it for moisturizer, homemade bath bombs, homemade sugar scrub, natural deep hair conditioner, and yes I use it to remove my makeup.

It seems really counter-intuitive to put oil on your face, but I promise it’s amazing.

I have been using the “Oil Cleansing method” for about two months and I love it!

I make a mixture of 50% oil (olive or safflower), 25% castor oil (helps draw out the gunk from pores) and 25% almond oil (for moisturizing). my sensitive skin has never been happier. I save so much money too (after years and years wasting it on fancy cleansers and moisturizers). I do this at night and “wash” with only water in the morning. I lovehow soft and smooth my skin feels!

Lana, isn’t it amazing? Whole world of difference for your skin.

Are you using regular olive oil, extra virgin or light olive or does it even matter? It seems like a silly question, but if extra virgin is more pure than the others, would it be better for your skin? I wouldn’t use the expensive stuff I put in salad dressings, but a cheapie store brand evoo, unless regular olive oil would do the trick too.

    • Allison :

I use regular extra virgin olive oil from Costco. Not fancy anything, just straight from the cooking aisle.

Have you ever used coconut oil? It’s hard initially but softens up pretty quick.

    • Allison :

No, I haven’t. Where do you buy it?

      • Jenny :

I got it at sunflower and macey’s in the oil section. It’s like 5 bucks at sunflower. But I have really really dry skin, so I don’t know if it’s recommended to glob it all over your body if you aren’t part reptile. I think it’s fantastic because the scent is so mild.

Yay! Another use for my Costco-purchased olive oil. (I bought the big one so I could make your homemade sugar scrub which I LOVE!) Thanks Allison!

We just bought the JUG from Costco. No problem using it up around here!

Try clicking on the youtube link to see if you can get that to work. Maybe it’s a Canada thing.

Just put olive oil on a cotton circle and start cleaning!
