how to napkin ring

Today’s DIY is how to make napkin rings for the holidays.  Since Thanksgiving is right around the corner the blog world has been chock-full of amazing recipe ideas and round ups. Which, don’t get me wrong, I am totally enjoying every mouth watering picture of turkey, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pies. However, we can’t forget about the rest of the table during the holiday meal!

To help spruce up the place settings, here is an easy do-it-yourself napkin ring project made out of simple materials you probably already have at home.

Materials:

  • Toilet Paper or Paper towel rolls
  • Yarn Scraps
  • Hot Glue

Cut the toilet paper rolls into 1” strips.

Glue an end of the yarn on the inside of the tube and start wrapping it around.

Woot! Look at that fun napkin ring!

But why stop there? The variations on how to make these napkin rings are seriously endless. Here are a few more I tried:

Take a small piece of craft wire and wrap it around a pencil 2-3 times.

Attach the wire to the napkin and ring, and now the ring doubles as a place card holder.

Finally, I threaded hexagon washers on the yarn as I wrapped it around the tube for some fun bling on the rings.

The possibilities are really endless! Use beads, mix different yarns together, try out different textures, it’s up to you!  Have fun, once you know how to make these napkin rings your holidays will take on a whole new level of amazing.

P.S. if you need some cloth napkins to put in your new napkin rings, check out my tutorial on how to make your own.

My girls are so, so going to love making these. At 8 and 7 – they are tired of the little kid crafts that they have been doing for years. These are going to be a welcome addition to our holiday season!
