It’s DIY facial time. A little *me* time for you, because you’re worth it. Your skin is dry, it’s acting up and behaving like a small, angry child and there’s only so much you can take before you want to break up. For realsies this time. Because you deserve better. You deserve a glowing face with nary a flake of dry skin in sight. So here’s what you’re going to do about it: you’re going to make a homemade DIY facial with ingredients from the kitchen, and when you’re all done your face will be as smooth as a baby’s bottom.
Let’s get started, shall we?
Dry Skin Rescue Facial Homemade DIY
- 1/2 of an avocado
- 1/4 cup honey
First of all let’s set the stage. Put on your bathrobe and start up some spa music. If you have children, make them leave the room. If you can’t do that do the next best thing: put on some headphones with Enya or some other calming music, for me right now that would be Bastille. I won’t judge you if your spa music is Metallica, we all have our own things.
Next, let’s talk ingredients. It wouldn’t be DIY without some stuff from the kitchen, so pop into your cupboards and grab an avocado and some honey.
Cut the avocado in half and slice up the pieces.
Add the avocado slices to the honey and mash it up like crazy. Use a fork to get the avocado nice and mixed in, but there will still be little pieces of avocado in the mix. Don’t stress about that, you’ll counteract all that zen you’re working on creating and we can’t have that, I won’t allow it.
Warm the DIY mix in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds (or on the stove if you’re microwave-less) just until it’s warm to the touch. Take the mixture and a small spoon to a comfortable, quiet place (no shame in locking yourself in the bathroom with headphones if you have to) and lie down. If you have someone to help you spoon the DIY avocado mix onto your face for you, fabulous. If you don’t, no worries, you’re a big kid and you can do it yourself, even if it takes a compact mirror.
Apply mask all over your face, avoiding your eyes. Lie still for about 10 minutes (or however long you need to achieve happiness) and let the avocado sink deep into your skin. Avocados are choc-a-bloc full of fabulous fats that are good both for your internal and external organs (ie. skin) and they will make your skin positively glow. Honey, (as we’ve discussed before in both my how to carrot facial DIY and my how to make a lip scrub at home DIY) has amazing antibacterial properties. You want that business on your face ASAP.
Once you’re nice and moisturized rinse off the face mask and wash your face with lukewarm water and whatever facial cleanser you normally use. Moisturize and be on your way; you have officially reached DIY nirvana.
