I grew up in a home where all of our bread was made by my mother. In a family of ten it was necessary for her to bake bread every other day. I didn’t fully appreciate this act of service until I was married & wanted to try my hand at bread-making. It has taken me nearly 10 years to perfect my mother’s recipe, and even still, I can’t replicate what she does with bread. Over the years she’s pared her recipe down to an absolutely basic loaf of white bread. I’ve been making a lot of bread lately using this recipe, and it’s practically fail-proof. My kids go bananas when I make it, wanting to be involved every step of the way. It’s such a treat for my family to eat, and my house smells like heaven while it bakes.
