I found this thrifted cake stand when I was out and about looking for Christmas presents last month at my favorite thrift store.
It was only $15!

This cake stand is an oldie but a goody and I wrapped it in about 10 layers of newspaper to bring it home, threatening my children with instant death if they even looked upon it.
I’ve been searching for one of these for a long, long time.
Not so much because I have freshly made homemade cake on the counter for my kids when they get home from school, but because there are fewer things more beautiful than a nicely accessorized cake dome. I filled it with Christmas tree ornaments over the holidays and have great plans for it in the coming months, of which I will surely keep you appraised.
Found anything good lately yourself?
It’s been too long since my last thrift store haul trip, and I’m going through withdrawals. I don’t need any more stuff. In fact, I’m tossing things out of my house as fast as my little hands can go, but it doesn’t mean I don’t want new stuff.

I forgot entirely about these glasses though, until I started putting glasses back on shelves last week, after our massive kitchen nightmare renovation. Aren’t they beautiful?

I picked them up and put them back at least a half dozen times before they finally ended up coming home with me. They were only .99 cents, but I had a hard time justifying them. What do I need with 6 vintage dessert glasses? I don’t host dinner parties very often ever, and I think they’d be wasted on my children.
I couldn’t resist though. And for the low, low price of $6 I have a set of beautiful glasses in which to serve: jell-o with a little whip cream on top, mini pieces of pie, individual trifles {cute!}, and any other combination of dessert loveliness I can dream up.
What do you think? Steal, or fail?

I took a huge load of kitchen goods to the thrift store on Friday. I’m trying to get rid of as much stuff as humanly possible before the kitchen is put back together; I don’t want to put anything back in those cupboards that doesn’t absolutely need to be there.
Which is great in theory, except that I can’t just drop a load off at Savers without going inside, looking around, and coming out with one. But I got some really cool stuff! And I came out with less than I went in with, that’s got to count for something, right? Right? Anyone? Sigh. Oh, Allison.

I wavered and wavered, and wavered about this glass pitcher. And when it came down to it I stood at the check out counter for a good 10 minutes deliberating and negotiating with the cashier. It was $8, which seemed ridiculous to me.
What’s really ridiculous is that I didn’t think twice about going next door immediately afterwords and buying a chicken salad from Cafe Rio for $8.50.
