storage solutions.

I love Cookie Magazine. I love everything about it, especially the clever decorating and organization ideas for kids rooms. I spied this little nook in Cookie a little while ago and fell in love with it; we have so many little cars and trains roaming around our house that would love to find a home in a little zipper cases like these. var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? helpful grocery shopping list gadget.

SmartShopper $79.99 I can’t believe gadgets like the SmartShopper even exist, just to make the lives of people like myself easier. If there is a gadget a woman needs to own {besides the requisite iPhone} it is this, the SmartShopper. Here’s how it works: you speak into it when you remember something you need to add to your grocery list. If for example you need apples, just push the ‘record’ button and say ‘apples’ into the speaker. The word ‘apples’…

cleaning tips.

Before I get to the good stuff, all the Christmas goodies I’ve been dying to share with you, I need to share a couple of cleaning tips. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I need to have the whole house clean before I decorate for Christmas. While I was cleaning yesterday I was thinking about all kinds of tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years of my domestication and who better to share them with…

night light.

Martha never fails me. You can easily make a night light for your child’s nursery following these instructions. But hey, why stop there? If you’re going to make one for the nursery, why not make one for your room too? They look easy to make, and you can customize the light to match your tastes instead of a cheesy cartoon character. {via Martha}. var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www."); document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "'…

mom calendar.

Part of my whole back-to-school ritual every year is to get a {big} new calendar for the school year. The moment the paperwork from school {and a myriad of extracurricular activities} starts flowing through the front door like a tidal wave, I write it all down on a master calendar. That way I’m not surprised in October when I’m expected to bring treats for sixteen preschoolers, and that come November I’m the head mom for the 3rd grade Thanksgiving Feast….

cabinet snooping by guest mom alma.

Mike and I felt we deserved a trip to IKEA last week to celebrate the news that we’re having a baby boy. Really, any reason is a good reason to go to IKEA. Among our purchases was this medicine cabinet. I’m tired of looking through every drawer of every bathroom when I need an Advil or a band-aid. I scouted this out online, and was struck by the product description that says, “Lockable top cabinet keeps curious fingers out.” It…

book pick: it’s all too much.

So I mentioned earlier this week that my husband and I have a great de-cluttering problem to tackle in our home. We’re not the worst collectors in the world, but I think that we can both agree that we have too much stuff. At my last job, I could get nice, quality purses for free or almost free. I already had a purse collecting problem. So suddenly I had the power to binge collect purses that I’d never be able…

spring parties.

I’ve really got an itch for Spring right now; maybe because it won’t stop snowing in my neck of the woods! At any rate, I’ve been searching for fun warm weather ideas {fantasizing really} and I love this one from Martha Stewart. I’ve had this particular lantern/butterfly page bookmarked in my Martha for quite a while and I was happy to see it on Hostess with the Mostess today. Find instructions here.
