Getting a great custom suit made

customized suit

A custom made suit. Sounds like something for the jet setters, the rich and famous fabulous people who are not me and you, doesn’t it?  That’s what a custom suit sounds like; something I will never have made for me and mine, no matter how great they look on Justin Timberlake with his fancy moves and even fancier lady hair.  However as it turns out, if you’re in Utah, you too can be one of the fabulous people with a great suit designed and made just for you.

No, for serious.  This is a thing.  And you’re not even rich and famous! (okay, maybe you are, but keep reading)

custom suit fabric swatchesHere’s the lowdown: a company called Dress Code makes custom suits & shirts at a sweet price-point.  Dress Code does not have store fronts but they come to you with all the patterns and fabrics to design your own suit.  Reps are in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, pretty much all over the place.  Not cheap-o fall apart suits, not Nordstrom / Bloomingdale prices, a good $300-400 middle ground for a great suit.  Is it tricky getting one made for you, you ask?

I’m so glad you asked, because … >> find out more…

Kate & William’s royal wedding style

kate and wills

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there’s a wedding at Westminster Abbey today.  Some kid named William is marrying a pretty girl named Kate MiddletonOh, my bad.  By the time you read this her name will be ‘Catherine’.  Kind of like how Tom Cruise calls Katie Holmes ‘Kate’.

Much more sophisticated that way.

kate & william's wedding

This Kate has some pretty sassy style, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care what she wore to her wedding.  I’m going to go ahead and wager a guess that her dress won’t be anything like Diana wore in the ’80′s;  Kate Middleton has got some serious style chops already and with a world of designers at her feet I imagine her wedding style won’t disappoint.

I do wonder though, what would she wear if the world weren’t watching?

Wedding report:

Victor here reporting to you on behalf/behest of Allison.  Allison is in Los Angeles right now with P at an event that I am sure she will be writing about soon.  In fact, in sure that she’s Tweeting about it @petit_elefant.  When she comes back, she’ll go straight to the Alt Summit where she’s speaking/presenting/mingling and selling this year’s Social Luxe Lounge event.  Anyways….

We spent the last few days about 50 miles from home getting ready and helping celebrate the wedding of spouse #3.  Spouse No. 3 has been around since 1995 when all three of us showed up in the same little Idaho town to attend college.  Allison came from Utah, Arlo came from Timmins, Ontario Canada, and I came from the greater Los Angeles area.  In fact, Allison has known Arlo longer than I had and she had a little thing for him; maybe it was just the fact that he was from a foreign land and from two time zones away that he had going for him, but when I swooped in from a foreign land that was 8 time zones away, well, maybe that’s what swung the pendulum my way.  Allison never looked back.

Thanksgiving Point Halloween 2009

Viktor here again.

Ever since I moved north from the temperate climate of Southern California I have really enjoyed fall.  It is by far my most favorite season.  After a long, hot, and dry summer, cool crisp air is a very welcome change.  With fall being one of my favorite seasons it is natural that Halloween would be one of my favorite holidays.  Now I am not a fan of witches, zombies, and monsters, but I am a fan of little kids dressing up as such.

About 15 years ago, a very prominent local family from the Word Prefect fame purchased a centrally located farm and started converting it into what is now Thanksgiving Point. Thanksgiving Point is a quality-of-life, education-based charity with a “mission to to inspire the minds and renew the spirits of young and old by providing unique learning experiences, family-friendly entertainment, and opportunities for discovery in a safe and beautiful environment. ”

This last weekend as a whole family we went to Thanksgiving Point to take part in their Halloween festivities.  Each year Thanksgiving Point puts on Halloween thingy called Cornbelly’s.  Cornbelly’s has a giant corn maze, rides, bouncy thingies, basically all of the fall … >> find out more…

On How I Got Myself In “The System”

Viktor here:

Growing up, one of my favorite past times was to get on the hand held CB and see what kind of new words I could learn from the truckers. Sometimes it was the combination of nouns, verbs, peppered with other nouns, adjectives, and what I later learned were called “adjective intensifiers” that made the conversation oh so wonderful. It seems like I always put this type of education above book smarts. All along though, I was worried that at anytime a black van would pull up and I would get in a whole heap of trouble because there are black vans out there patrolling the streets keeping America safe from prepubescent scum like me.

Once, even when I was old enough for the State of California to have deemed me responsible enough to drive a car, I took a CB up to a top of a hill together with a friend, tuned it to the ever wonderful Channel 19, and we continued to expand our education. A little bit later we see lights coming up the road towards us, and we choose not to pay too much attention to them as cars have come and come throughout the … >> find out more…

Poland’s victory over Russia.

Seventy years ago this week events were developing that would change the world’s political and historical canvas. Germany was crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s on Case White (Fall Weiss) which was Germany’s plan of the invasion of Poland. Because of the inevitable winter the execution of Fall Weiss was to begin no later than 1 September 1939. Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler were busy working out the details on the fourth partition of Poland in what was to be known as the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, or “Treaty of Non-aggression between the Third German Reich and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics”, and Poland was busy quietly calling up reservists to active duty, and while at the same time attempting last efforts at diplomacy, while at the same time signing treaties of mutual military cooperation with France and Britain (which would later simply become part of the Phoney War and the Western Betrayal.)

Poland not only had to worry about it’s western border with Germany, but it’s southern border with Nazi occupied Czechoslovakia, as well as it’s eastern border with the Soviet Union. The ratio of German troops to Polish troops was pretty much 1:1, and … >> find out more…
