Kate & William’s royal wedding style

kate and wills

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there’s a wedding at Westminster Abbey today.  Some kid named William is marrying a pretty girl named Kate MiddletonOh, my bad.  By the time you read this her name will be ‘Catherine’.  Kind of like how Tom Cruise calls Katie Holmes ‘Kate’.

Much more sophisticated that way.

kate & william's wedding

This Kate has some pretty sassy style, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care what she wore to her wedding.  I’m going to go ahead and wager a guess that her dress won’t be anything like Diana wore in the ’80′s;  Kate Middleton has got some serious style chops already and with a world of designers at her feet I imagine her wedding style won’t disappoint.

I do wonder though, what would she wear if the world weren’t watching?

What’s in your purse series week forty five

This week’s What’s in Your Purse Series purse is from Kacey.  Thanks!

–If you want to submit your purse to the series take two photos of your purse {nice, clean non-blurry ones} one of the outside, one of the inside, along with a listing of the contents to allisonATpetitelefantDOTcom

purse what's in her purse

This purse is a $25-30 JCPenney special that my husband actually spotted while we were out shopping.  He picked it up and said, “This looks like something you would like.  Do you want it?  Let’s get it.”  Can’t say no to that!  Plus it’s cute, gray, the perfect size, and comfortable to carry.  It also happens to have 9 separate compartments/pockets…good thing I just shove everything into the large middle one.  How’s that for organization?

Here’s what I’ve been carrying around…

  • Giant wad of receipts and old grocery lists.  This one is actually quite tame compared to the norm.  I run an etsy shop, so I’m always shipping packages.  The post office receipts are like a foot long and just end up tangled around the other contents of my purse.
  • Silver wallet from Target.
  • Movie stub from seeing “I Am Number Four” this weekend…loved it!  (Confession: I also found

What I wore Wednesday nautical

I’ve never done a What I wore Wednesday, but I’ve thought about it for awhile.  Usually what I wore on Wednesday isn’t super fancy, just jeans and a tee, but I was fancy yesterday.  I had to run errands so I got dressed.  Here’s what I wore.

nautical tee

My new favorite Nautical tee from Costco.  Love.

White House Black Market Skinny Jeans.  They fit like a glove.

Boots from Target.  I’ve gotten MILES out of those babies.

Belt: Thrifted from D.I.

Turquoise ring: Forever 21

Yellow bead necklace: DownEast Basics

Should we start a What I/You Wore Wednesday Series?  What say you?

Must have make-up primer

If you’re wearing any significant amount of make-up and are over the age of 17 {AHEM}, you should be wearing make-up primer. It’s basically spackle for your skin. Sounds terrible, but it’s magical. It fills in all the lines and problem areas you don’t want anyone to see, and it feels like silk.

Go get some.

bad fashion week part 6

You guys, I don’t really know what to say about these.  I mean, aside from the fact that they’re totally Jersey Shore.  Trashy looking.  Dated.  Hideous.

They feel especially small town.  I see them all over town, with rhinestones on the bum no less, and I think “Ladies please, there’s another way!”.

You know what’s worse?

Stop the insanity.

Disneyland Anaheim hotel

In October we spent the night at the Hyatt hotel in Orange County, just a hop skip and a jump from Disneyland.

Sadly we weren’t spending any time at Disneyland, we were headed to see my Rheumatologist!  Fun for everyone.

hyatt hotel

I’ll tell you what, I’m totally sold on Hyatt hotels.  They’re just the right blend of fancy without being too stuffy, which isn’t an easy feat.

bed

The room was gorgeous, clean, and crisp which is what I’ve come to expect at the Hyatt.

hotel room

And do you see this room?  We had our own little sitting room for entertaining guests, which we did.  My brother was in town for some meetings down the street {what are the odds?} so we had him over for U-NO.

We like to keep it a little crazy, don’t be jealous.

hotel room

The best part of the room by far, was those two little doors you see.  Precocious?  On the other side of the master suite doors.

Not too shabby.

hotel suite

The kids had their own little suite as well, behind their own set of doors so the entertaining could go on into the night.

It did.

bunkbed

They didn’t mind the bunk beds too much either.… >> find out more...

hot sandals for summer 2011

I can’t even wait for Summer.  Like, I’m already having fantasies about taking my kids to the local pool and reading magazines in the burning hot sun while I drink a cold beverage.

It doesn’t feel really close in Utah, but it’s just around the corner.

hot sandals for summer 2011

I wanted to share some of the hottest sandals out there right now for the Summer 2011.  I’ll give you a big fat hint: espadrilles are everywhere.

I loved them when they were hot in the 80′s and I love them again this time around.  Anyone can wear espadrilles.  They give the illusion of height while allowing you to walk like a normal person.

I limited myself to my favorite 6 sandals right now, but I think I’ll have to share more as Summer draws near.  I already lost half my afternoon searching for these.  Eep!

What’s your favorite Summer footwear?  Besides no footwear at all, of course.

1. espadrilles 2. majorca 3. peep toe platforms 4. wedge 5. via spiga 6. glamour

Eastern European currencies

Viktor decided early on in our trip planning that he didn’t want to be the translator for me 24/7 {see the packing list and travel guide we’ve chosen for our family trip to Europe}.  That includes translation of language, cultural customs, time zones, and currencies.

Basically, Viktor wants to be the anti-tourist.  So he made up little currency cards for everyone in the family.  That way no one has to ask him to translate when we want to spend money.

eastern european currencies

On one side of the card there’s a currency chart of US dollars vs. the Euro, and monies in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary where we’ll be traveling.

On the back side is the address and phone number of the family apartment we’re staying in while in Warsaw.

I should be cool traveling solo, right?  No problems at all.
