bendaroos set.

Surely you’ve seen the commercials on Nick Jr. No? The Disney channel?

My kids have seen Bendaroos commercials aplenty and they’ve been begging me for months to buy some, repeating the commercials to me verbatim. Bendaroos are actually pretty cool. They’re like strings dipped in wax that can be reshaped endlessly to create all sorts of entertainment. I’ve been finding little artistic assortments all over my house lately. First there was this:

{a little bouquet for my desk}

Then this on P’s wall:

And finally, my two favorites. Of all time.

We’re loving them around our house. Reusable, great for a rainy day or a group of bored kids who want to do a craft. Wouldn’t they be perfect for a birthday party of little girls? I think C and his friends would destroy them in seconds…

If you’d like a pack, now’s your chance. See giveaway details below:

Babysitting co-op

[photo by ashley]

10: the number of times we’ve made use of a babysitter (a grandparent or trusted teenager) in the 32 months we’ve been parents.  Also the number of times my honey and I have been out alone on some kind of date. Some of those I probably shouldn’t even count since they were professional obligations for my hubby. We really should get out more. But with our nearest relatives 2 hours away, well,  goodness it gets expensive to hire a babysitter for a couple of hours–on top of dinner or movies or any other expenses for the evening.

My neighbor and I have tossed around the idea of a neighborhood child-care rotation. Something where this set of parents leaves their kids with that neighbor for date night, and vice versa. With 5 families, and over a dozen kids under the age of 6, it’s going to take a lot of planning and calculating and teaming up (a dozen kids!)  It could be risky. It could be ideal. It will definitely require some cut and dried parameters.
Have any of you clever moms out there done anything like this before? Are there guidelines we should follow? Does it work or do personal schedules make it too complicated?  Any suggestions or alternative solutions?

i see london i see france…

As the mother of a little girl I really struggle with trying to keep P modest in all her physical activities. In fact she usually wears sweats to gymnastics, because she really hates people looking at her bum. I don’t blame her. I really could have used Francie Pants in high school when I wore a uniform. I wore boxers to school every day underneath my kilt so if there was a nasty wind, I wasn’t in trouble.

Francie’s are adorable spandex shorts that will keep your girls covered in any situation. The beach, gymnastics, under her uniform, you name it. There’s even a virtual dressing room online so you can play with designs before you commit to a pattern. Now how cute is that?
