bendaroos set.

Surely you’ve seen the commercials on Nick Jr. No? The Disney channel?

My kids have seen Bendaroos commercials aplenty and they’ve been begging me for months to buy some, repeating the commercials to me verbatim. Bendaroos are actually pretty cool. They’re like strings dipped in wax that can be reshaped endlessly to create all sorts of entertainment. I’ve been finding little artistic assortments all over my house lately. First there was this:

{a little bouquet for my desk}

Then this on P’s wall:

And finally, my two favorites. Of all time.

We’re loving them around our house. Reusable, great for a rainy day or a group of bored kids who want to do a craft. Wouldn’t they be perfect for a birthday party of little girls? I think C and his friends would destroy them in seconds…

If you’d like a pack, now’s your chance. See giveaway details below:

Babysitting co-op

10: the number of times we’ve made use of a babysitter (a grandparent or trusted teenager) in the 32 months we’ve been parents.  Also the number of times my honey and I have been out alone on some kind of date. Some of those I probably shouldn’t even count since they were professional obligations for my hubby. We really should get out more. But with our nearest relatives 2 hours away, well,  goodness it gets expensive to hire a babysitter for a couple of hours–on top of dinner or movies or any other expenses for the evening.

My neighbor and I have tossed around the idea of a neighborhood child-care rotation. Something where this set of parents leaves their kids with that neighbor for date night, and vice versa. With 5 families, and over a dozen kids under the age of 6, it’s going to take a lot of planning and calculating and teaming up (a dozen kids!)  It could be risky. It could be ideal. It will definitely require some cut and dried parameters.
Have any of you clever moms out there done anything like this before? Are there guidelines we should follow? Does it

i see london i see france…

As the mother of a little girl I really struggle with trying to keep P modest in all her physical activities. In fact she usually wears sweats to gymnastics, because she really hates people looking at her bum. I don’t blame her. I really could have used Francie Pants in high school when I wore a uniform. I wore boxers to school every day underneath my kilt so if there was a nasty wind, I wasn’t in trouble.

Francie’s are adorable spandex shorts that will keep your girls covered in any situation. The beach, gymnastics, under her uniform, you name it. There’s even a virtual dressing room online so you can play with designs before you commit to a pattern. Now how cute is that?

great compact personal training device

So there’s this crazy cool gadget called the ActiTrainer to help you get, and stay, fit. It helps people like me, who like to sneak sweets in when no one is looking, stay accountable. You can’t cheat with this thing because it monitors:

• Calories burned
• Heart rate
• Pace/distance traveled
• Step count

And, if that weren’t enough to keep me out of the cupcake shop, it also measures “sleep efficiency” and “nighttime awakenings”. Which honestly would be very helpful for Victor, aka Sir Kicks-A-Lot.

ActiTrainer Solution Package
$198

The ActiTrainer basically takes the place of a personal trainer, for way less money and hassle. You put the band on just like a heart monitor, and then you’re stuck, no cheating! You can see how much or how little you really are getting up and walking around, and how many calories you’re eating vs. how many you think you’re eating {*ahem*}. Wicked cool if you, like me, are interested in really monitoring your fitness.

how to: grow your own sprouts.

May’s theme for the month is…………..Vegetables

Sprouts are such a super vegetable and so easy to grow! There are many benefits of sprouting and many ways to add them to your day. (information compiled from lifesprouts.com)

1. SPROUTS contain enzymes which aid in digestion and convert starches into sugars, protein into amino acids, and fats into fatty acids. We need live enzymes everyday in our foods.

2. SPROUTS provide the highest quality proteins, which are easy for the body to use, are low in fat and contain no saturated fat or cholesterol.

3. SPROUTS contain essential vitamins, proteins and minerals in their purest natural forms.

4. SPROUTS provide a good source of fiber, which stimulates the body’s internal self-cleansing abilities.

5. SPROUTS slow the aging process. They are an excellent source of anti oxidants.

Sprouting is not a tricky skill and doesn’t require fancy equipment. I am a simple sprouter when it comes to sprouting! I use a wide mouth canning jar and an old nylon. Pr
etty easy! You definitely can purchase a sprouting tray, which are easy and some of the sprouting trays even have 3 trays that stack. So you can >> find out more...

family road trip.

Hello again, Victor here.

So with this trip we decided to leave the trusty Subaru at home and hit the HWY in the biggest thing that there is; a Toyota Land Cruiser. Because you never know what curbs might need crossing. It’s not the FJ40 that I used to have a few years back, you know, the kind with no doors, no roof, no floor, and a folding wind screen; but it’s the kind with four doors, AC, and a solid front axle. We figured that fuel is not the $1.30 like it was in the fall, but it’s not $4.00 either. Oh well.

Follow us on our trip here on Flicker. We’ll be using Eye-Fi and AutoNet Mobile to upload as we drive so pretty much, you’ll be seeing things real time people. These photos will be geo tagged as well, so you can also see exactly where these photos were taken as well.

road trip, baby.

So, it’s time for the road trip. It’s 11:30 p.m. and I’m not packed yet. The kids are packed, the car is packed, Victor is packed, but I am not. I’m in denial that we’re leaving tomorrow because I’m not totally organized. I don’t have individual presents wrapped for the kids to open every few hours like I normally do {best travel tip ever, by the way}, the house isn’t clean, and Victor is working the night shift. I’m trying to have faith that it will all work out in the morning; it has to. We’re pulling P out of school at noon sharp, whether or not I’m ready.

I’m excited in the back of my brain: a THREE week road trip down the coast of California, are you kidding me? Victor and I used to talk about this as our fantasy road trip way back when we were dating, and now it’s happening. I think I’ll be excited once I’m in the car, listening to the amazing road trip Cd’s made for me with love by Jet Set, kids screaming in my ear.

Welcome to my Summer.
