petit elefant on facebook.

Thanks to my dear husband, {I could write a whole post about how much I love him. Maybe I will. Later} created a Petit Elefant Facebook Page! Hooray. So now you can follow me on twitter: @petit_elefant and become a fan on Facebook.

Just in case you weren’t getting enough of Petit Elefant, I’ve made it a little bit easier to become a stalker. Okay, I don’t really want *stalkers*, but come if you love me.

It’s almost impossible not to have seen Sarah Jane Studios work around the blog-o-sphere. Her talent is immesurable and her style is sweet and simple; the perfect combination. Her elephant print was one of my inspirations when I started Petit Elefant, it’s simply adorable isn’t it?

If you haven’t taken a minute to look at her shop, do it now. She has some great cards just arrived for Mother’s Day and you can’t go wrong with any of her past work. I’m really lusting after her sibling prints. Maybe if I hung them in my children’s bedrooms they wouldn’t fight? No, they’d definitely still fight, but their rooms would look swanky during the battle.

applique onesie.

Over Christmas my family I needed a hand-made something as a gift to my sweet nephew {we were doing a hand-made only Christmas as an extended family}. I didn’t have a whole lot of time, so I looked to the power of creative moms and found CuckooBoo, an online boutique full of adorable hand-made children’s apparel, hair clips, and more. I needed something *train*, and CuckooBoo whipped up the cutest appliqued train shirt you’ve ever seen. I wish I’d taken a photo. My nephew is completely in love with it. It’s hand-made. Everybody wins.

weekly fitness tip: reward yourself for working out.

I didn’t get to a fitness tip on Monday because we welcomed back our wonderful Alma from *maternity leave* {welcome back Alma, we love you!}. I might have to move my new section of fitness tips to a different day; Mondays belong to Alma. In any case, here’s the next tip.

Reward Yourself.
And by *reward yourself* I don’t mean go eat a few cupcakes. I mean when you hit a target goal of yours, reward yourself with something you wouldn’t normally buy yourself. Go to a spa and get a massage, treat yourself to a facial, get a pedicure, buy yourself a cute pair of sassy new shoes. You need to keep investing in yourself to keep the fitness motivation alive. So go ahead and treat yourself, you deserve it.

Etiquette

We recently went out to breakfast, on a Saturday morning, to a hugely popular local establishment. You know, one of those places with not-so-great atmosphere but great food and reasonable prices, frequented by all types of people, with a wait staff comprised almost entirely of rough-around-the-edges grandmas.

The lobby was standing-room only, packed with all walks of life waiting to be seated for breakfast. Hubby was wrangling our toddler while I searched for a comfortable place to stand my 9 months pregnant bod and wait for our table  There wasn’t one. The available benches and chairs were occupied by others waiting for a table–a few elderly patrons, and some families with teenagers and kids. After a few moments of standing, a gentleman easily into his 70’s stood, with the aid of his cane, and approached me. He kindly offered me his seat. The elderly man with a cane offered his seat to me. Kindness.
It made me think a little more about manners and etiquette. Thus, I was pleased to note a recent piece from Real Simple about just such matters which are all too common and all too often awkard. Concise and helpful, click here to read.

mom 2.0 summit recap.

{This is me checking in, day 1. Notice my new Shade outfit? Love it.}

I can’t even tell you how much fun I had at Mom 2.0 this past weekend. F-U-N. The amount of energy and brain power packed into those ballrooms at the Four Seasons was crazy; I felt like I needed my spare brain {you all have one of those lying around, right?} after only a few hours in the first day. It was amazing. I learned so much I’m not sure where to start, but a few things really stood out.

-If you’re going to get a migraine, do it when you’re at a conference full of sympathetic women. I had more offers for migraine medicine, diet coke, ice water, and help back to my hotel, than I knew what to do with. These women are not only marketing geniuses, amazing writers, businesswomen, and mamas, but women first. And women are kind, and sympathetic. And nurturing.

-Hand out free stuff and you’ll be queen for the day. Free stuff {the good kind} is a great way to break the ice and meet people you might not have otherwise approached. I met some great ladies because >> find out more...

babysusu.

It used to be pretty difficult to find something suitable for little boys to wear that didn’t involve superheroes or dinosaurs. But that’s the beauty of the internet these days; it’s easy to find plenty of great things without ever leaving home. babysusu is one of those designers with a few great finds. It’s a collection for little boys 0-4 that is reminiscent of classic & modern but perfect for little boys all at the same time.

what should be in your diaper bag?

Well, I’m back! It’s Monday morning and little O is sleeping quietly beside me in his bassinet. There is so much that I have to say about parenthood now that I’m officially a parent, but I can’t tell you everything all at once! Where will be the fun in that? What I will say right now is that nothing could have prepared me for how I would feel about my sweet baby and my sweet husband throughout this experience. I have grown closer to my husband and our love for each other has matured, and my heart has expanded to love this new sweet little boy. It swells every time he smiles, coos, or poops his pants. There’s basically nothing he can do wrong.

So as a new mom, this is one of my first discoveries. The diaper bag. A few years ago, a friend and I, though neither of us was expecting, sewed Amy Butler’s nappy bag so that we could have a lightweight, large tote. So this is the first diaper bag that I’ve used so far. I used a heavier, winter fabric for the bag, so the style suits this time of year.
