Part of my whole back-to-school ritual every year is to get a {big} new calendar for the school year. The moment the paperwork from school {and a myriad of extracurricular activities} starts flowing through the front door like a tidal wave, I write it all down on a master calendar. That way I’m not surprised in October when I’m expected to bring treats for sixteen preschoolers, and that come November I’m the head mom for the 3rd grade Thanksgiving Feast.
I’ve tried several wall and desk calendars and am impressed with calendars from Time Too. Perhaps it’s because the creator of the Time Too product line Catherine Nunes, is the mother of four daughters and knows all too well how critical it is to be well organized during the school year. The calendar is huge, so there’s room to fit in all the family’s activities with additional room on the bottom for extra notes and special dates. Go get yourselves organized already.
Printed on 100% recycled, forest friendly, chlorine free paper.
There’s something so enchanting about traditional Matryoshka dolls. I’m rather fond of these soft, limited edition, hand-crafted beauties. Quiet Hours Toys (discovered via Design Mom) is an on-line shop featuring limited-edition, handcrafted children’s items. These sweet one-of-a -kind Matryoshka dolls, by Denise Mollison, are just one example of the many treasures you’ll find there. I think they’d make a lovely gift for a lovely little girl. FYI: Items sell out quickly, as nothing is mass-produced but rather skillfully hand-made by a few artisans.
Etsy never ceases to amaze me with its massive amount of talented artisans, and {handmade jig} is a perfect example. I am head over heels for {jig}’s onesies which are each custom made by Alyssa Coberly to your desired specifications. I recently had a custom {jig} onesie made for a dear friend of mine; there were squeals of approval across the room when she opened the gift. They are squeal inducing onesies.
Corrine of C.C. Baby Inc. recently introduced me to her Etsy shop which is full of delightful floral hair accessories for little girls. Corrine started creating after she started a family a few years ago and discovered her love of crafting and I have to say I’m glad because there are few things in the world more charming than a flower in your hair.
Swarovski Studded Hair Clip.

Last week, family friends almost lost their little boy to drowning. When they pulled him out of the water he wasn’t breathing and didn’t have a pulse. They had just started CPR when a neighbor saw what was going on and rushed over to help. She told the family that they were administering CPR incorrectly because the boy was under five, and she took over. They were able to get the boy breathing again and they rushed him to the hospital. He’s now out of the hospital and back to being an active little boy.
What impressed me about this neighbor was how prepared she was. Her grandchildren come to visit her at her cabin every year, so she takes a CPR refresher course every year. If not for her preparation, my friends might have lost their son.
Even before this happened, I was recently thinking that I have forgotten all the First Aid that I learned when I was in high school. I think that I could successfully perform the Heimlich maneuver on an adult, but that’s about it. My friends’ close call has motivated me to sign up for a First Aid course. They’re pretty easy to find … >> find out more…
